Teachers' Notes
'Cream Tea with James and Miss Sophie' is a 90 minute interactive comedy entertainment involving the characters from 'Dinner for One' - the 18 minute sketch that has been delighting families across Europe since 1962. It is not necessary for students to have seen Dinner for One as the show only borrows the characters and is a totally original piece of interactive theatre. Students will be served a cream tea whilst they help Miss Sophie choose which of her guests she should marry.
Language focus: Language and adjectives describing personality. After each character has attempted to woo Miss Sophie, students will be asked to discuss and make notes about their personalities and suitability as a possible husband for Miss Sophie. At the finale of the show Miss Sophie will summarise the students' feedback and ask the students to make the final choice for her. The last scene of the show will depend on their choice!
The Cream Tea: During the show students will be shown exactly what a cream tea is and how it is eaten, whether you prefer the Devon or Cornish method. Halfway through the show the students are served their very own cream tea to enjoy.
At the end of the show the students are welcome to take photographs with James and Miss Sophie if time allows.
